Inai KenangaDredging equipment
Largest suction Dredger
The Inai Kenanga is the largest suction dredger in Asia. Vuyk Engineering Rotterdam selected a design team to develop the new vessel and the dredging system.
Inai Kiara is a Malaysian based dredging company which has the intention of becoming a major player in the dredging market. This intention is supported by a large investment program containing new building of various hoppers and cutter dredgers. For one of these vessels, a 32 000 m3 trailing suction hopper dredger, Vuyk was requested to assist.
After having developed the concept for the vessel, Vuyk performed the full basic design including dredging installation. Vuyk also made a finite element global hull strength analysis, including fatigue for the highly stressed locations. At last, Vuyk assisted the yard during the building stage with engineering coordination and further detailed design.
The team for this project consisted of a mix of naval architects, mechanical engineers, and several specialists in structural and system design disciplines. At Vuyk we can mix all disciplines and create a team that can work on all facets of the project.
The delivered dredging system, forming an integral part of the dredger, consisted of two complete trailing suction pipe systems, including gantry systems, swell compensation, and hosting winches. Also, the bottom doors and actuating system were part of the dredging equipment design package. The equipment is operated in the harsh dredging environment of sand-water mixtures. Therefore in the design of the system, a lot of focus has been given to the performance, operability, and maintainability of each individual component.
